Color Study

Glass: 5/1/11: 1PM: Rexburg, ID: f4.0:1/6: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS

I set the camera on the table to get a good angle of the glass. Then I had my roommate drop red food coloring into the glass of water.  I took multiple shots as the color went into the glass. I didn't do any editing to this picture.

Clock: 4/28/11: 10 PM: Rexburg, ID: f4.2: 1/60: Nikon D3000

My friends had this clock in their apartment I thought it would be a good contrast with black. I had my roommate hold it up to the black refrigerator as i took some shots. To give the background some more texture and the clock to pop out I blended some grass into the black.
Cooking: 5/1/11: 12PM: Rexburg, ID: f4.0: 1/4: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS

After seeing we had a lot of red and black items in the kitchen my roommate arranged a random arrangement. After looking at the original picture I felt it blended too much with the background. I cut out the image and turned the background black. To make it pop out more I beveled and embossed it.
Mikkah: 5/1/11: 5PM: Rexburg, ID: f6.3: 1/100: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS

My roommate at a red tutu so we went up to the upper fields and she danced around and posed until I got some good shots. The sun was setting so I needed to get a good angle so there wasn't too much light. I then cropped it and turned the picture black and white beside keeping the tutu colored.

  1. Heather-I love your collection of photos for you color study! I like the first photo, how you froze the motion of the color! Nice example of Large aperture as well. Picture 2 is interesting because of the position of the clock, it not typically how we view the clock, so it grab my attention. Great cut out on photo 3, it is clean and really makes the cooking items pop. I love the tutu in your last photo and I love how you shot above her so that there was not a lot of background distractions! Great job!

  2. I like your colors and your first blending image. I thought about doing the same thing with the water. The shapes the coloring makes in the water is just so pretty. I wish it had been an even closer shot of the water. The blended image has the appropriate amount of grunge. It doesn't look over done.
